Our Story...

J T Cox Group Ltd was approached by the BBC after a recommendation from a client about our service and work. The BBC enquired if we could assist in a big build project to help complete a home for an 8 year old girl called Erica and her family following the tragic passing of her mother and her father’s failing health. After hearing this heart wrenching story, we were only too pleased to help.

We were asked if we could help source other willing trades, products and materials and so the journey began. Several trades attended the site to see what lay before them. It was going to be a mammoth task to complete the project in such a short space of time. To go from an empty shell to a beautiful 3 bed house, including a lovely garden, was almost impossible, but not quite….

The BBC requested that the task of co-ordinating and running the plumbing and heating aspects of the project be undertaken by J T Cox Group Ltd.  We were more than happy to do this as we have run many large scale projects before.

And so the work began for J T Cox Group Ltd, first by making a lot of phone calls to our network of colleagues from Business Networking International (BNI) and suppliers.  We were able to secure plasterers, electricians, roofers and builders from the BNI for the project and with a few
kind words of persuasion to our suppliers, we obtained a free boiler from Glow-worm, free water and waste pipework from Polypipe, free radiators from K Rad, free electrical supplies from Gough Electrical Ltd and a lot of supplies from Thorncliffe Building & plumbing Supplies.  A ‘BIG’ thank you to all these guys….

We needed to attend the property before any other trades or the film crew started on site. We worked on Saturday 6th, Sunday 7th and Monday 8th August 2010, to install all the first fix of the main water supply and waste pipe work for the bathrooms, kitchen, utility room and all of the heating system pipework and all the first fix of electrical supply cable.  JT Cox Group Ltd managed to do this with the help of Derek Scrowston-Williams (Eco Green Heating) and Gareth Williams (Williams Builders) and with the help of the electricians we use in the BNI for the first fix of all the wiring….. Thank you lads……

The official big start day arrived, 10am Wednesday 10th August.  Approx. 70 trades’ people turned up to help out from all walks of life and all trades.  The response was tremendous and I was proud to say that at least 9 BNI members, who we asked, helped throughout in varying ways…

There were many occasions when it was almost impossible to move inside the property with so many people on site but with everyone in such high spirits and so motivated, we all got on with the job.  Once the builders and plasterers had finished a room we could move in to complete the 2nd fix.  We had radiators to hang, bathroom suites, kitchen sinks, and the utility room to install, and get the new heating system up and running.  Outside we installed all the soil stacks and waste pipework along with an outside tap and dog bath!…..

As with any project, there is always snagging or supply issues, and this project was no exception.  But we got through it and finished the project on time, Friday 19th August 2010, the unveiling day.  To see the expressions on Erica’s and her father’s faces when they saw the finished project, was one of the best days in my life and I am proud to have been a part of it, not just for J T Cox Group Ltd but for myself as well……..
